HEALTH CHECKS

Health Checks: What are they, why is having them helpful?

A health check includes several tests to assess your current health and fitness status. These tests involve:

Resting Heart Rate: We are able to compare this with average data for people of your age and gender. A low RHR would generally signify higher fitness levels. This test is a good heart health gauge.

BMI (Body Mass Index): This test result indicates whether your weight is healthy, pre-obese, obese class 1, 2 or 3. Your result can indicate potential health problems such as diabetes.

BP (Blood Pressure): This test will inform us how efficiently your heart is working. If you decide to use a personal trainer this can inform the training programme you are given.

Peak flow (lung capacity): The peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) is a test that measures how fast a person can exhale (breathe out). This result can help identify the level of cardio vascular fitness you have which is helpful when gauging heart health.

Body fat %: This shows the % of body fat you are carrying which we can then compare to normative data. This information can help with fat loss, achieving health and fitness goals and increased health benefits.

Basic Metabolic rate: How many calories you need to intake for your body’s basic functioning. With this figure we can work out your daily energy needs based on activity levels and your own goals.

Waist Girth measurement: This test measures the girth around certain parts of the body. When taken several weeks later your personal trainer can determine fat loss/gain and possibly predict possible risk of developing heart disease.

Food Diary: I can provide general nutritional advice considering healthy eating, BMR and fat loss goals via completion of a seven day food diary (including drinks).

The assessment takes about an hour to carry out. I will then email, post or discuss your results with you face to face. Included in this will be an explanation and general advice.
